TOKYO —
A U.N. refugee organization will hold its fourth Refugee Film Festival in Tokyo from Oct 1 to 8, the UNHCR Representation in Japan said Friday. Among the 20 films to be screened at the festival is ‘‘Burma VJ: Reporting From a Closed Country,’’ which features secret footage of human rights violations in the military-ruled country provided by Myanmar video journalists, according to the Japanese branch of the office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.
The documentary includes footage of a soldier fatally shooting Japanese video journalist Kenji Nagai, who was covering a 2007 anti-government demonstration. ‘‘Film is a great medium to tell and share the story’’ of the lives and circumstances of refugees, especially with people who do not encounter refugees in their daily lives, Johan Cels, representative of the UNHCR branch said.
